Far, Far Away
Elisa A. Bonnin, Natalia Hernandez, and Gabe Cole Novoa talk writing the fantastical while queer and putting their own spin on it. Moderated by DJ (DJReadsBooks).
DJ (he/him)
DJ Jackson is @Djreadsbooks on IG. He grew up in Williamsburg, VA and ended up in San Diego because of the Navy! His passion is diverse books from BIPOC and/ or Queer authors. He is a co-host of the #QueerBookstagrammertour. He is passionate about literacy as an educator and parent. He is often found cuddling with his cats, drinking coffee, and reading a good book.
Elisa A. Bonnin (she/her)
Elisa A. Bonnin was born and raised in the Philippines, after which she moved to the United States to study chemistry and later oceanography. After completing her doctorate, she moved to Germany to work as a postdoctoral scientist. A lifelong learner, Elisa is always convinced that she should “maybe take a class in something” and as a result, has amassed an eclectic collection of hobbies. But writing will always be her true love. Publishing a book has been her dream since she was eight years old, and she is thrilled to finally be able to share her stories. She is the author of Dauntless and Stolen City.
Natalia Hernandez (she/her)
Natalia Hernandez is an Indigenous, Latinx, and queer book nerd who was lucky enough to have grown up all over the world. As a Third Culture Kid she has lived in Turkey, Romania, Poland, Guatemala, England, and now resides in a sleepy little beach town with her cheagle Mija. As an avid reader and passionate writer, she wants to create queer fantasy novels that feature strong women of color in sweeping Latin American-inspired settings.
Gabe Cole Novoa (he/him)
Gabe Cole Novoa is a Latinx transmasculine author who writes speculative fiction featuring marginalized characters grappling with identity. Now leveled up with an MFA in Writing for Children, when he isn't answering emails at his day job, or buried under his two cats, you’ll likely find him crocheting or knitting while listening to an audiobook. Gabe is the author of The Wicked Bargain, Most Ardenly: A Pride & Prejudice Remix (January 2024), and the Beyond the Red trilogy, written under a former pseudonym.
